MEET MARQ EVANS: YOUR DOCUMENTARY COACH.

I believe every documentary filmmaker has a story worth telling and an audience waiting to hear it. My mission is to bridge the gap between your vision and successful completion, drawing from over 15 years of hands-on experience in documentary production and film education.

My Documentary Journey: As director and producer, I've brought multiple feature documentaries from concept to screen, including THE GLAMOUR AND THE SQUALOR, CLAYDREAM, and THE DIAMOND KING. My upcoming Bigfoot documentary represents my most ambitious project yet, while a deeply personal documentary I produced with my brother in Haiti—a 15-year journey from start to finish—demonstrates my commitment to seeing important stories through to completion, regardless of the challenges.

Teaching and Mentorship: As director of the documentary film program at Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington, I've guided hundreds of emerging filmmakers through their first projects. This academic experience has taught me how to break down complex filmmaking concepts into manageable, actionable steps—skills I bring to every coaching relationship.

What Sets Me Apart:

  • Real Production Experience: I've faced every challenge you'll encounter, from funding gaps to equipment failures to story crises

  • International Perspective: My Haiti project taught me the complexities of cross-cultural storytelling and international production

  • Long-Term Vision: I understand that great documentaries often take years to complete—I'm here for the entire journey

  • Educational Approach: My teaching background means I can explain not just what to do, but why and how to do it effectively

My Coaching Philosophy: Every filmmaker's path is different, but the fundamentals of great storytelling remain constant. I provide the strategic framework and practical guidance you need while respecting your unique vision and creative process. Whether you're a first-time filmmaker or an experienced producer tackling new territory, I'm here to help you navigate challenges, avoid pitfalls, and achieve your documentary goals.

When I'm not coaching or teaching, you'll find me in the field working on my next documentary or in the edit room bringing stories to life. I remain an active filmmaker because the industry evolves constantly—and my coaching stays current because I'm living these challenges alongside you.

Beyond the Credits: When I'm not behind the camera or in the classroom, I'm exploring the Pacific Northwest with my family, always on the lookout for the next story worth telling. I believe the best documentaries come from filmmakers who stay curious about the world around them—a philosophy I bring to both my films and my coaching practice.
